Disney

Role: Graphic Design / Art Direction / UI Design

Overview

As a Graphic Designer for The Walt Disney Company, I’ve had the unique pleasure of contributing designs for many brands and products within the Disney umbrella, including the Disney homepage, DisneyNOW, Disney Movie Insiders, ABC, Oscars, and Avatar. By partnering with various teams and producers, we supported theatrical and streaming releases, created custom branding, and designed for brand social media presences.

Disney.com

As the central hub for fans, Disney.com promotes various Disney properties such as films, television shows, and theme park resorts, offering entertainment content for children and families. I helped create and maintain design templates used to optimize our team’s workflow and create daily designs featured throughout the site.

Homepage Takeovers

For our Disney.com homepage takeovers, we created celebratory moments by expanding our normal hero area and utilizing the branding colors from the featured film. Our goal was to celebrate this special day and moment for fans and support the theatrical or streaming priority.

Movie Property Pages

Individualized landing pages for each Disney movie and Disney+ Originals release were created to support these experiences. These pages typically include trailers, key art, galleries, and film information.

Frozen Anniversary Website Refresh

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the theatrical release of Disney’s Frozen, we partnered with our Frozen colleagues to refresh the Frozen web portal. I had the pleasure of leading the design for this project and building the page with my amazing producer and colleague, Micki Goldstein. To bring that Disney magic, I created a motion banner to immediately transport the user into the beautiful, snowy world of Frozen, where they could explore character bios, videos, and activities.

Monster Mashup - Logo Design

To keep our spark of creativity alive, our part of the Disney organization throws a semi-regular art show that allows everyone to create a piece of art based on a new theme. We decided to name this specific Halloween art show "Monster Mashup," and the ask was for everyone to create a piece of art that blended various Disney IPs. But first, we needed an art show logo! That’s where I came in and developed a logo that was very inspired by some of my favorite Disney movies: Monsters, Inc. (the rogue eyeball), The Nightmare Before Christmas (bones!), and The Little Mermaid (Ursula’s tentacle).

Logo Evolution

After deciding on an official version, the logo began to develop and called for a backplate or outer stroke. With this new approach, the design began to evoke the silhouette of a haunted house and the vibe of a "BEWARE" sign.

Final Logo

The final logo was inspired by modern DisneyNOW and Disney Channel shows: I wanted to embrace bold color, fun effects and for the logo to feel like it was seconds from twitching.

DisneyNOW

DisneyNOW is an app created by Disney that allows kids to access content from Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, and Radio Disney. With DisneyNOW, fans can watch full episodes of their favorite Disney shows, play games, and discover new content. I had the pleasure of leading the design for DisneyNOW and partnering with producers to support the website and app with new weekly content.

Game Thumbnails

With a wide library of games, my team and I support DisneyNOW with featured thumbnail images that display bold, fun, and energetic key art for the latest games, interactive song, and trivia experiences.

Quick Quiz

To support new show and movie releases, we partnered with Riddle to create custom quizzes. These experiences utilized the branding from the related content and were featured on both web and app platforms. This initiative also called for me to create a custom logo design inspired by Disney Channel’s updated branding.

Disney Movie Insiders

Disney Movie Insider is a loyalty program that allows fans to earn points by engaging with Disney movies, TV shows, and other content. Members can accumulate points by purchasing Disney movie tickets, buying Disney Blu-ray discs or DVDs, and participating in various activities such as quizzes, surveys, and watching trailers. These points can then be redeemed for rewards such as movie merchandise, exclusive experiences, and even VIP trips to Disney events. I had the pleasure of leading the design for this program by creating designs for the website, app, and social media presence.

Sweepstakes

To support theatrical and show releases, our marketing and social team held regular sweepstakes for Disney fans. These sweepstakes featured limited-edition prizes such as toys, vinyl records, and much more.

ABC / Oscars / Avatar

There are so many wonderful brands under the Disney umbrella. I was fortunate to support many of them including the ABC website/app, Oscar.com, and Avatar.com. This included creating custom templates to optimize production design, collaborating with producers to manage the websites weekly and during new film releases or events, and providing design quality assurance when new features were implemented.
